Obtaining a Bilingualism Exam (B1 - B2 - C1)

Obtaining a Bilingualism Certificate (B1-B2-C1)

The internal language proficiency exams of the unibz Langauge Centre are conducted according to standardized criteria and the specifications of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and include an assessment of written comprehension, listening comprehension, written production and oral production.

The Bi- and Trilingualism Service of the Autonomous Province of Bozen-Bolzano recognizes the exams of the unibz Language Centre (which include an assessment of all four language skills) in order to obtain the bilingualism certificate.

For example, if you have passed the unibz German exam at the B1, B2 or C1 level may obtain the bilingualism certificate for the corresponding level by taking the monolingual Italian exam. Conversely, if you have passed the Italian exam you will only have to take the monolingual German exam.

N.B. the waiting times for taking the bilingualism or the monolingual exam at the Bi- and Trilingualism Service can be rather long. If you need to obtain the certificate of bilingualism urgently to take part in a public competition, you can request the exam to be rescheduled to an earlier date. You can also contact the examination service of the Province by phone to check if there are any last-minute spots.

As an alternative to the monolingual Italian or German exam offered by the Bi- and Trilingualism Service of the Province, you can take the exam in your L1 (Italian or German) at the unibz Language Centre during the exam sessions scheduled in the academic calendar, by sending an e-mail to language.centre@unibz.it during the exam registration periods.

You can check on the web pages of the Bi- and Trilingualism Service which other language certifications are recognized.
